A1035 – Road Safety Campaign
Tickton & Routh Parish Council is deeply concerned about the recent accidents on the A1035, and we extend our sincere sympathies to all those affected.

Following the serious road traffic collision on Tuesday 24 March, the Parish Council has written to East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This correspondence has also been shared with Beverley Rural Ward Councillors, the MP for Beverley & Holderness, and the Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire.
Since the fatal incident, the Parish Council has remained in regular contact with Ward Councillor Paul Smith. We are now working closely with him to facilitate a public meeting with relevant authorities, providing residents with an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with officers.
Having listened carefully to residents and considered longstanding concerns regarding safety on the A1035, the Parish Council has identified several key collision hotspots within the parish:
-Hull Bridge Road through Tickton village
-Junctions and turning points around Cherry Lane Garden Centre, Hull Bridge Road, Main Street, Meaux Lane, Eske Lane, and Tickton Grange
-The rural stretch between Tickton and Routh, where higher speeds and overtaking are common
The Parish Council has formally requested that East Riding of Yorkshire Council:
-Undertake a full collision analysis using data from the most recent five-year period
-Identify whether any sections meet the Department for Transport criteria for “accident clusters”
-Conduct a Road Safety Audit or equivalent engineering review
-Outline immediate and medium-term mitigation measures
-Explore grant and government funding opportunities to support necessary improvements
Potential measures should include:
-A review of speed limits and enforcement, including the introduction of average speed cameras
-Junction redesigns or right-turn protection measures
-Consideration of a roundabout at the western junction in Tickton and at Meaux Lane
-Improved signage, road markings, and visibility
-Measures to reduce overtaking conflicts on rural sections
-Roadside protection for neighbouring properties
-A Traffic Management Plan in relation to the Weel Bridge closure
-Improved and additional pedestrian crossing points (A1035 and Tickton Primary School, Main Street)
The Parish Council has also requested a written response confirming:
-Whether this section of the A1035 is currently under review
-The Council’s assessment of collision trends along this route
-What actions will now be taken in response to these concerns
Given the seriousness of the issue and the potential risk to life, the Parish Council expects this matter to be treated as a priority.
